Elevator Pitches - Time is of the Essence
Have you ever heard the term “elevator pitch” and felt completely clueless? You’re not alone. When I began college I was not familiar with this term and wondered why it was so important for me to have one. Now that I have been familiarized with the business-world and the importance of networking, I understand how beneficial it is, knowing how to neatly package yourself to leave a strong impression on a potential employer.
Not only does this solve the dreaded “tell me about yourself” statement in an interview, but it is a great tool to pull out of your pocket while networking. This brings me to the second most important point, memorize your pitch! Yes, it is all about you, but getting nervous is normal. When your pitch becomes routine, you will be able to network anywhere with confidence!
I’ve included my elevator pitch below. Feel free to use it as an outline when making your own:) It is also important to note that updates should be made as you grow your resume and portfolio. Keep accomplishing great things! You got this.
“Hello! My name is Kaitlyn Brian.
I am a senior at Southern Utah University studying Marketing & Management. I will graduate with my Bachelor’s degree this April (2024). I have also begun my MBA with an emphasis in Business Analytics and plan to complete this degree in August 2025.
While earning my degree as a full-time student, I work as the Marketing Coordinator for the Dixie L. Leavitt School of Business, overseeing a team of two, increasing brand awareness, and creating marketing campaigns to increase school enrollment, involvement, and donor relations. I participate in conferences and nationally recognized competitions whilst serving as the Director of Social Media for the Women in Business program as part of being an Ivory Scholar recipient.
Through this experience, I have been able to use practical application to gain experience in my field. I have worked with local businesses on their strategic marketing plans that have had tangible effects on their businesses.
I am passionate about video creating and strategic operations to maximize efficiency in businesses. Through my positions and college experience, I have learned effective time management, team work, and honed my detail-oriented and organizational skills to produce quality work. I'm excited to leverage my skills and expertise to make a meaningful impact in the world of marketing, and I'm eager to explore opportunities where I can continue to learn, grow, and innovate."
