After conducting an in-depth personal analysis last week, this week, I have made a SWOT chart and a short analysis of quick points in four different areas. The first two sections are focused internally on my strengths and weaknesses. The second sections, opportunities and threats, are focused on external factors and help me learn how I can strategically place myself in the job market.
All of my listed strengths, and others not included on this list, have all been developed and recognized as a result of real-life experiences. Something I have always excelled at is being detail-oriented. I understand the smaller parts that make the whole stable and complete. I am also proactive and alert of my surroundings. I am able to figure out what needs to be done and do so efficiently and effectively. Determination is one of my strengths that is the reason I have graduated college, began a master’s degree, and am currently training for a half marathon. I push myself personally and professionally. When I set my mind to something, I get it done and do it well.
An internal weakness that I am currently improving upon is self-doubt. One of my personal themes for the year is to “Fail more”. If I am failing, then that means I am trying new things, giving my all (not just “trying”), and learning from the outcomes. As I have been intentionally stepping outside of my comfort zone and taking more pride and ownership in my accomplishments, I have realized what I can and do bring to the table. I have found my voice.
With my personal experiences, educational pursuits, and work-related background, an opportunity I possess in the job market is entering with relevant experience and a decent portfolio. Because I am a recent graduate, I have knowledge on current marketing strategies and how the newer generation integrates into the workforce. I can use this to diversify the company I am hired at and offer a new perspective. A potential threat posed as I am entering the workforce is a saturated market and competitive environment at highly sought after companies.
My biggest competitive advantage I have is my thirst for knowledge and drive to continually be learning. This has helped me be a more valuable employee in jobs I have held because I take initiative to learn everything I can and have the ability to contribute wherever needed, especially on a moment’s notice.
My most prominent differentiators are the life challenges I had at a young age through which I have learned resilience and perseverance. I have learned that with enough hard-work and determination, I can overcome any obstacle in my life and that there is something to be enjoyed in every day.
